Award Winning Woolseys

Jim and Lynna Woolsey from Southern Indiana have been playing music together for over 30 years, but it took a 2014 project for Jim to finally convince Lynna to record a CD with him. Jim, the songwriter, had been writing music for a long time but it was always a life long dream to actually record a CD of his own material himself. That CD, The Road That Brings You Home, launched a new era in their musical life that saw Jim and Lynna hitting the road together as a duet.

2016 brought their second CD to fruition, Heart, Soul, Blood and Bone, which stayed on the Roots Music Report chart over a year. The single, “Last Train Out,” charted well on several major charts, and the album itself charted as one of the top albums for 2016.

Jim has since placed second, two years in a row, as a finalist in the famed Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at Merlefest. As well, for the second year in a row, the Woolsey’s have been chosen to represent one of their original works at the IBMA Songwriter Showcase in Raleigh, NC this coming September. They were also the 2018 winners of the Circa Blue Fest Songwriting contest.

Not ones to rest on their laurels, The Woolsey’s have just released their third CD, Long Ago, and are hitting the road, not as a duet, but with a full band this time. “We’ve got number four recorded and ready to go too,” Jim said laughingly. Regarding his band, Jim said, “We’ve been very fortunate to come across some great pickers – just some great guys to work with – and they really love our original stuff and are really behind it. You can’t ask for anything any better than that.”

The band features Jim and Lynna of course, as well as Dave Foster on bass, Mike Curtis on Dobro, Brian Leaver on banjo, and Tobe Woodrough on mandolin.
